Road Traffic Collisions
As a Fire and Rescue Service, we attend a large number of incidents involving vehicle collisions. All of our fire engines are equipped with either hydraulic or electric cutting and spreading equipment, commonly referred to as the “jaws of life”.
To assist with the safety of our firefighters and the public at these incidents, the appliances also carry a wide variety of support equipment which are used to stabalise vehicles and cover sharp edges that are left after cutting metal.
The safety mechanisms in vehicles can also be hazardous. As a result, all our fire appliances are fitted with a mobile data computer terminal which holds the safety information of every car so that firefighters can be made aware of these hazards.
