Milford Haven Fire Station
Milford Haven Fire Station is a Flexible Crewing Station with Wholetime firefighters crewing one of the five different appliances in the station for 365 days of the year. On Call Firefighters provide an additional key resource for the community, they respond to the station when required and carry out the same duties as their Wholetime counterparts.
Milford Haven area has a population of 21,550 and is on the north shore of the Cleddau estuary. The station covers the Dale peninsula to Broad Haven and includes Johnston & Neyland. The risks are varied and some of the industrial risks require an enhanced level of understanding by the Fire fighters who work at the station. The port is the third largest in Britain and handled 43m tonnes of cargo in 2012. Within five miles of the Station there are two oil refineries, a petrochemical storage plant and two liquefied natural gas facilities.
The town is built around the docks areas which have been a thriving fishing port and still has a busy dry dock and marina, the main Paddington rail line terminates at the docks. There is also light industry, agriculture, tourism and many miles of coastline adding to the diverse nature the risk. Amongst its resources the station has a rescue boat which provides emergency cover to the rivers, coastline and nearby estuary.
