Builth Wells has a population of 5,715. The Station covers Builth Wells town and the surrounding communities of Llyswen, Erwood, Llanelwedd and Llanafan Fawr.
The main risk for Builth Wells and its surrounding communities are the A and B road networks leading to Builth Wells as well as the A470 trunk road, which traverses through Builth Wells. The River Wye flows through the town and can, at times, pose a risk from flooding and water rescues.
Builth Wells hosts the annual Royal Welsh Show in July, which greatly increases the number of people and vehicles in the area. Builth Wells offers many attractions: the beautiful, unspoilt countryside ideal for walking, pony trekking and mountain biking; leisure and sporting pursuits, including fishing in the renowned Wye and Irfon Rivers; an 18-hole Golf Course and a modern Sports Centre providing a wide range of facilities.

The station has experienced an increase in Primary Fires and will work with the command’s business fire safety team and partners to identify those commercial buildings that would benefit from advice, guidance and enforcement by way of Fire Safety Legislation.
