Hay-on-Wye Fire Station
Hay-on-Wye is located on the Welsh / English border. Most of the town lies within Wales, but Eastern parts do encroach into England. The station provides emergency cover and support to 4419 persons living within the town and the surrounding communities.
The main risk for Hay on Wye and its surrounding communities are the A and B road networks in the area. Notable premises include several public houses, hotels and numerous book shops for which the town is well known.
Priority for 2014-2015
• Reduction in secondary fires such as grass & heathland & chimney fires.
The station has also experienced an increase in secondary fires such as grass & heathland & chimney fires. We will continue our farm fire safety initiative & work with all stakeholders to reduce these incidents.
Crews will use local media to publicise the importance of maintaining and cleaning chimneys and flues in accordance with manufactures instructions and will offer Home Fire Safety Checks to the local mainly rural Community. The station will continue to carry out the service’s free Home Fire Safety checks. This initiative will be offered and delivered to those who need it most, supported by an on-going schools educational programme, as both initiatives are vital components in reducing the incidents of fire.
