Knighton Fire Station

Knighton has a population of 4,099; and is situated in the North East part of Radnorshire. An area centre, Knighton is located on the South side of the River Teme, which forms the boundary between Wales and England. The town lies in the valley, bounded in the West by Garth Hill, in the North by the forested uplands of Kinsley Wood and by Great Ffrydd Wood in the South. Wylcwm Brook, a tributary of the River Teme, passes through the town in a South-westerly direction, creating an elevated spur on which the old town is situated.

The Station covers Knighton town and the surrounding communities of Beguildy and Llangunllo. The main risk for Knighton and its surrounding communities are the A and B road networks in the area.

Knighton Town is a busy market town, with numerous public houses and hotels. The town also has other risks which include a small hospital, railway station and a small area of industrial units.

Priority for 2014-2015

• Reduce the number of secondary fires such as grassland, refuse and derelict buildings

The station has experienced a slight increase in the number of secondary fires recorded during 2013. We will continue to work with Dyfed Powys Police, the local authority and other partners to identify causation factors. Remedial work will be conducted to reduce the number of incidents.

We will also deliver targeted Home Fire Safety Checks in high risk areas, offering home fire safety checks to every property in the area. Additional advice and guidance is available via www.mawwfire.gov.uk
