Llanidloes Fire Station
Llanidloes has a population of 6134; is located in the South West corner of Montgomeryshire, in a landscape that rises from the Severn, Dulas and Clywedog valleys to Plunlumon and the upper Wye Valley in the West. Habitation and the network of communication are concentrated along the narrowing valleys, many of which have their confluence in the town of Llanidloes.
The Station provides emergency cover and support to the town and its surrounding communities.
The main risk for Llanidloes and its surrounding communities are the A and B road networks as well as the A470 trunk road which runs adjacent to the town. The River Severn and its tributaries run into and through the area and Llyn Clywedog Reservoir is situated 3 miles to the West.
Priority for 2014-2015
• Reduction in Chimney fires
Llanidloes fire station has experienced an increase in Chimney Fires in comparison to the preceding twelve month period. This rise in incidents could possibly relate to the rising cost of gas and oil and residents making use of open fires or multi fuel stoves. We will work with Housing Associations, private landlords, local Chimney sweeps and all other householders in ensuring that the maintenance of appliances, cleaning of flues etc. are carried out, following the manufacturers guidance or at least annually.
The station will also deliver targeted Home Fire Safety Checks in high risk areas, offer the check to neighbouring properties at every dwelling fire and continue our educational input at every opportunity. Additional home and chimney fire safety advice and guidance is available via www.mawwfire.gov.uk
