The town of Rhayader has a population of 3,376. It is situated at a natural crossroads between East and West, North and South. The Fire station provides emergency cover and support to the town of Rhayader and its surrounding communities. The main risk for Rhayader and its surrounding communities are the A and B road networks as well as the A470 trunk road which runs through the town.
Priority for 2014-2015
• Reduction Primary fires & road traffic collisions.
The station has experienced an increase in Primary Fires and will work with the command’s business fire safety team and partners to identify those commercial buildings that would benefit from advice, guidance and enforcement by way of Fire Safety Legislation. The station with assistance from command will deliver road safety reduction activities in Rhayader and the surrounding area in partnership with the Powys Local Authority Road Safety team, local engagement groups and Dyfed Powys Police. This work will focus on young drivers aged between 16 and 24, older drivers aged 70+ and Motorcyclists, these areas reflect the focus areas highlighted in both the Service’s and Welsh Government Road Safety delivery plans.
