A challenging and exciting opportunity exists for the right person to form part of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Executive Board in the post of Assistant Chief Fire Officer. The post is likely to appeal to an individual seeking the opportunity to make a real difference in an organisation which has demonstrated consistently high levels of performance and innovation during a time of change and financial pressures, and who has the potential to become Chief Fire Officer.
Suitable applicants will have already demonstrated achievement and leadership and be able to show a clear understanding of the challenges facing the Service over the coming 5 years and beyond.
You will have the skills and aptitudes to operate effectively at a strategic level, and be able to provide examples of where your professional involvement has made a positive difference.
At a time of tight financial constraints you will need to think creatively and channel the energy and commitment of colleagues to inspire positive performance to seek continual improvement.
Applicants will currently operate at competent Area Manager level and those able to display strong evidence of good communication and leadership skills will be advantaged, as will those who can demonstrate ongoing personal and professional development, evidenced by post-graduate qualification(s).
The Mid and West Wales area covers the largest geographical area of any Fire & Rescue Service in England and Wales and has an extensive coastline. It has a diverse range of risks, including the urbanised City and County of Swansea, petrochemical and shipping industries around Milford Haven, Baglan and Port Talbot, Universities at Aberystwyth, Carmarthen and Swansea, as well as a large rural agricultural and forestry base.
The successful applicant will be based at Fire Service Headquarters in Carmarthen, which administers 58 fire stations and 1300 staff with a budget of over £43 million.
The Service has recently been re-accredited with Investors in People (Silver) and the Welsh Government’s Corporate Health Standard (Gold).
