DEPUTY CHIEF FIRE OFFICER
Circa £104,000 WITH EARN-BACK PAY AND PERFORMANCE-RELATED PAY OPPORTUNITIES

A challenging and exciting opportunity exists for the right person to form part of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Executive Board in the post of Deputy Chief Fire Office​r. The post is likely to appeal to an individual seeking the opportunity to make a real difference in an organisation which has demonstrated consistently high levels of performance and innovation during a time of change and financial pressures, and who has the potential to become Chief Fire Officer.
 
Suitable applicants will have already demonstrated achievement and leadership and be able to show a clear understanding of the challenges facing the Service over the coming 5 years and beyond.

You will have the skills and aptitudes to operate effectively at a strategic level, and be able to provide examples of where your professional involvement has made a positive difference.
At a time of tight financial constraints you will need to think creatively and channel the energy and commitment of colleagues to inspire positive performance to seek continual improvement.

Applicants will currently operate at Brigade Manager level, and those able to display strong evidence of good communication and leadership skills will be advantaged, as will those who can demonstrate ongoing personal and professional development, evidenced by post-graduate qualification(s).
 
The Mid and West Wales area covers the largest geographical area of any Fire & Rescue Service in England and Wales and has an extensive coastline.  It has a diverse range of risks, including the urbanised City and County of Swansea, petrochemical and shipping industries around Milford Haven, Baglan and Port Talbot, Universities at Aberystwyth, Carmarthen and Swansea, as well as a large rural agricultural and forestry base.

The successful applicant will be based at Fire Service Headquarters in Carmarthen, which administers 58 fire stations and 1300 staff with a budget of over £43 million.

The Service has recently been re-accredited with Investors in People (Silver) and the Welsh Government’s Corporate Health Standard (Gold).

​Wholetime Firefighter Vacancies

The Service works in collaboration with the North Wales Fire & Rescue Service and South Wales Fire & Rescue Service in terms of an All - Wales Recruitment Campaign​ when ​Wholetime Firefighter vacancies arise.
 

These recruitment campaigns usually take place every 2-3 years and advertising and publicity campaigns take place in the lead up to the recruitment of Firefighters.

HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER (ABSENCE MANAGEMENT)
HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT
£25,440 - £27,123

A vacancy exists for a suitably experienced candidate to coordinate the Service’s Occupational Health / Sickness Absence monitoring arrangements and communication between the Service, its Managers and employees, and the external Occupational Health Service providers.

The successful applicant will have demonstrable administrative experience, preferably within a similar environment and hold a relevant Occupational Health or Administrative qualification. Ideally you will also hold or be working towards Graduate CIPD Membership, although this is not essential. The post is 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday), and is based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen.

HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT
HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT

A vacancy exists for a suitably qualified candidate to provide comprehensive administrative support within the Human Resources Department based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen. 

The successful applicant will provide comprehensive HR support to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Human Resources Department, and will ideally hold or be working towards graduate CIPD membership or an equivalent HR related qualification.
