Neath Port Talbot - Duke of Edinburghs Awards

The Fire Cadets from Port Talbot were awarded their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award on Monday 12th November 2018. Pictured along with the Fire Cadets are Dr Robert Weaver from Tata Steel and Station Manager Neil Evans along with the Cadet instructors Watch Manager John Phillips and Firefighter Jaqueline Ball.

The National Fire Cadets is an educational youth organisation, providing young people with the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge whilst working towards a BTEC level 2 in fire and rescue services in the community, which is a nationally recognised qualification.  The Fire Cadets is open to young people between 12 and 18, and will enable young people to gain skills, knowledge and positive experience in a fun, safe and secure environment.  There are further prospects to become an instructor, volunteering within the Fire Cadets and inspiring young people to make positive life choices about their futures.

Station Manager Evans took the opportunity to personally thank the instructors from Port Talbot, who have supported these young people for their hard work, dedication and commitment.

Station Manager Evans said:

“Without the dedication and commitment from both the instructors and the Fire Cadets these schemes would not be able to run.”
