Textile Bank January 2019

30/01/2019 00:00

Textile Bank heroes!

This year we are pleased, once again, be supporting The Fire Fighters Charity January Bag it and Bank It Recycling campaign.

Thirty-two fire stations across the Service area currently house a textile bank in order to support this campaign and every January, they are set the challenge to see how much clothing and textiles they and their local community can recycle during the first month of the year!

Over the past 8 years Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have raised an astounding £86,322.22 from the textile banks alone.  The Service actively supports the Charity through many different fundraising events and are proud to be associated with a Charity that does so much to assist those who need support.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Rob Quin said;

“The Firefighters Charity does fantastic work to help injured firefighters and their families. It is incredibly important, therefore, that Fire Services across the UK continue to work hard to raise the money needed to enable this work to continue. The charity makes a real difference to the lives of those who often suffer serious injuries trying to help people in need, so the very least we can do as a Fire and Rescue Service is to help make sure they can access the care and treatment they need to put their lives back on track.

“Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have a long and successful history of fundraising for the charity and these latest figures, raised from the collection of clothes and textiles, is another fantastic example of how this Fire Service is contributing. Of course, this is only one example of the ways we go about raising money to support the Firefighters Charity. Each year, our staff stage many fundraising events across the whole of the Mid and west Wales, such as car washes, sporting events, seasonal collections and physical challenges. Last Christmas, we even recorded a Christmas song supported by personnel from other Fire and Rescue Services from across the UK.

“A large amount of the money we raise for the Firefighters Charity comes from personal donations by members of the public and businesses, who feel they want to thank us for the help we have given them when they need it most.  I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for the very many generous contributions the people living in mid and west Wales have made and continue to make to supporting their Firefighters in this way.”

You can find Fire Fighters Charity textile banks at many of our fire stations. They're bright yellow with the Charity's logo on them so you can't miss them.
