Neath Port Talbot Command covers an area of 44,217 hectares and contains the most diverse range of Risks within the Brigade. This includes specific high-risk sites such as CORUS, BOC, BP, INCO and a wide range of Generic Risks such as Heavy and Light Industry, Deep water harbours, Motorway and dual carriageways, high speed rail links, extensive forested areas and numerous Coastal and Inland Waterways. These Risks, along with the Urban and Rural settlements combine to make the Command an interesting and challenging place to work.

Water TenderThe Command operates 6 Stations located at Neath, Glynneath, Cymmer, Port Talbot, Seven Sisters and Pontardawe with its administration centre situated on the first floor at Neath Fire Station. In all some 131 staff service the Commands needs, 110 of which are operational crews maintaining the 7 Water Tenders and 4 specialist vehicles 24 hours a day. An additional team of 5 operational Officers and 3 administrative officers work with the crews to meet the safety needs of the people of Neath Port Talbot. To further enhance the safety of the population, 6 Legislative Fire Safety officers and 3 Community Safety officers work along side the Fire Crews. Together they liase with local industry, NPT local Authority departments and various voluntary organisations, enforcing and developing safety measures in commercial and private properties.

Fire Safety LiteratureWe are committed to working in partnership with a wide group of organisations to meet the Brigades aim of reducing Fire deaths and injuries. Working groups are already functioning effectively and a number of innovative and effective schemes are in place. These include the Fire Safe Communities initiative, The Vehicle Arson Campaign and Young Offenders Schemes, all of which the Command is committed to supporting. Operational Crews are also involved in delivering the Safer Neath Port Talbot message and are actively engaged in Home Fire Safety Audits, smoke detector fitting and engaging with the populace at Public events and meetings. Further partnerships are being developed with a number of Communities First Groups and it is hoped that these links will help identify local issues by engaging with the local people.


Command Objectives

Presentation CeremonyThe Command's main objective is to it deliver a high quality Fire and Rescue service to the people of Neath Port Talbot. We aim to achieve this by engaging with the local community to reduce the Risks associated with fire and by ensuring all our staff are well trained, informed and motivated.
