Chris Davies
Assistant Chief Fire Officer
Chris joined South Glamorgan Fire Service in 1984 and served at Cardiff, Ely, Roath and Whitchurch stations both as a fire fighter and officer. In1992 he took a transfer into Fire Safety, where he was responsible for all hotels and residential care premises.
Following the amalgamation of the Welsh Fire and Rescue Services in 1996, Chris secured a secondment to the Fire Service College for three years as Assistant Divisional Officer working within the Command and Management faculty.
On his return to South Wales in 2000, he was appointed to Emergency Planning Officer, and soon afterwards became Head of Operational Risk Support. He then secured a further secondment within the Government New Dimension project, and was responsible for the implementation of the mass decontamination equipment for all Wales.
During this period Chris had the opportunity to command one of the sectors at the Buncefield refinery incident for three days, being responsible for the fire ground management and logistical supply requirements for 14 High Volume Pumps.
On return to the Service two years later he was appointed to Deputy Divisional Commander in the South Division of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and progressed to Head of Community Safety. In 2008 he transferred to Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, as Corporate Head of Community Risk Reduction, being responsible for both business and community fire safety matters.
In 2011 Chris was appointed to Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Director of Risk.
Chris is an active member of Chief Fire Officer's Association (CFOA), representing the Welsh Fire and Rescue Services on the Members Sounding Board. He is also chair of the all Wales Community Risk Reduction committee. Chris also holds a Masters' degree in Business Administration.
Chris has two sons and lives in the Mumbles area of Swansea
