Important Information
Responsibilities

In May 2004 new legislation came into effect which requires dutyholders to put in place arrangements to manage the risks posed by Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) that are present in the premises for which they are responsible.

Amongst the responsibilities of the dutyholder, under the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 - regulation 4(9), is the requirement to make all information about the location and condition of any ACM available to the Emergency Services.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has addressed this issue by developing the following Online Asbestos Register for dutyholders to enter details of asbestos materials and premises.

Who is responsible?
The dutyholder is anyone responsible for maintaining and repairing all or part of a property, or who has control of the building.

What buildings are affected?
All non-domestic buildings, whatever type of business is carried out in them. It also covers the common areas of residential rented properties, including halls, stair wells, lift shafts and roof spaces.

Where can I find more information?
Further information is available from the Health and Safety Executive website in the form of the following guidance publication:
