Put a spring in your step!
Our mission is to build safer communities, and you can help by springing into action to ensure your own safety, and that of your family. The single most important thing that you can do is to ensure that you have at least one working smoke alarm on each floor of your home. For many people in Mid and West Wales in recent years a working smoke alarm has literally made the difference between life and very serious injury (or worse).
It’s important that those of you who have received a Home Fire Safety Check regularly check that your smoke alarm is working properly. If we have fitted an alarm for you it will contain a 10 year battery … but you still need to check that the alarm is working correctly by pressing the test button once a week. If you have fitted your own detector with a one year battery, also check the unit weekly and make sure you change the battery when the low battery bleep is heard or at least every year. Please check your alarms regularly – it could save your life.
We continue to develop and expand a wide range of community based educational and preventative services, focused on those most at risk.
Our programme of improving and upgrading our fire appliances and equipment to 21st century standards is ongoing. This is enabling us to deal effectively with the wide range of incidents that we now attend, the majority of which are now emergencies other than fires, such as road traffic collisions.
A wide range of information is available on this website, which I hope you find of interest. Our specific plans for the year to come are contained within our 2008/2009 Action Plan. Our plans for 2009/2010 are currently in draft form, and we are actively seeking your views on them.
Should you have any comments or suggestions, either about our Service or this website, we would be pleased to hear from you.
