Fire Safety Education Schemes - Schools Programme
Schools Programme
The department currently runs a diverse schools education programme through the use of dedicated non-uniformed schools personnel. The programme is based primarily upon targeting areas with high fire activity and high levels of social deprivation. Schools will receive a visit either every 12, 24 or 36 months depending on fire and social deprivation indicators.
Through the education department your fire service is working towards providing detailed lesson plans and training to secondary schools PSE coordinators for use in those lessons, on subjects such as fire safety and safer driving. The fire service will also visit year groups to provide general fire safety presentations upon request.
Listed below are the main aims of the departments education policy:
1. To liase with education and social services departments to ensure the programmes are widely available to all parts of the community
2. To target all schools and colleges with an organised educational programme
3. To provide and deliver a range of targeted programmes to address specific fire related problems
4. To raise the awareness of the public to the dangers of fire in the home, and provide information to enable prevention, detection and escape from fire.
5. To provide community groups with a broad fire safety education programme
6. To provide Fire and Rescue Service personnel with the tools to support visits to stations and youth groups.
