Fire Safety Information - If you have extra needs
If you or a member of your household has any difficulty seeing, hearing or moving about the home, you will need to take extra care to deal with the risks of fire. The following organisations will be able to offer you help and advice.

General advice

The following may help when considering the additional fire risks faced by those with extra needs:

  • Contact your local Fire & Rescue Service who will be able to assess how safe your home is and help fit fire safety equipment such as smoke alarms.

  • Your local Citizen Advice Bureau or branch of Age Concern will be able to put you in touch with local voluntary groups that can also help.

  • Friends and family members are often a great source for help and guidance.

  • Make an escape plan so you know what to do if there is a fire in your home (for how to do this, visit the Escape section on this site).

  • If you live in sheltered accommodation or a residential home, ask your landlord or warden to explain the safety plans for the premises and make sure you know your nearest route to safety.
