Firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have been inundated with calls to grass fires over the weekend. Over 74 incidents were reported to the Service´s Fire Control room over the weekend. The cause of the recent fires is under investigation.

An elderly lady has died in a house fire in Swiss Valley, Llanelli. Firefighters from Llanelli attended the incident reported at 12:28 hours (12/02/08). The cause of the blaze is currently being investigated by the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service. Firefighters are urging people to ensure they have working smoke detectors and take up the offer of a free home fire safety check, which is carried out free of charge by local firefighters.
