Entry Requirements

Requirements


  • You must be aged 18 or over
  • You need to live or work near a retained fire station, as you need to be able to get there within a few minutes of a call, i.e. approximately 200 - 300 yards on foot or a 2 - 3 mile drive.
  • You will need the support of your employer if you intend to respond during working hours.
  • No formal qualifications are required, however you will be required to pass the Fire Service’s written tests.
  • Eligible applicants start the following process, with success at each stage allowing progression to the next:


Stage 1

  • Application form including availability
  • Fire Service written test
  • Physical aptitude assessment


Stage 2

  • RDS initial training course (Successful completion of all 3 modules is required)
  • Pre-Employment screening (to include medical examination, drug and alcohol testing, criminal record checks and reference checks)
