Work Experience
Although courses are occasionally provided for students who are seeking experience of the operational role of Firefighter, the arrangements for such courses are usually dealt within each respective County Command area, in conjunction with Careers Wales. Students interested in this kind of placement should initially express an interest to Career Wales or the appropriate County Command Headquarters via their school / college careers advisor. The six County Command areas are as follows, and can all be contacted via the Service's main telephone number 0370 6060699.
- Carmarthenshire County Command
- Ceredigion County Command
- Neath / Port Talbot County Command
- Pembrokeshire County Command
- Powys County Command
- Swansea County Command
There are however, from time to time, opportuities for students to obtain short-term administrative placements (1 week duration) within Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Students who feel that an administration based placement would be of benefit to their development, i.e. providing experience of the general office environment, and the various clerical and administration functions / routines within it, should provide a written request to the Service's Human Resources Department at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, Carmathen, SA31 1SP. These placements are generally only available at our Carmarthen and Morriston sites, due to the lower numbers of support staff available to provide student supervision at remote sites such as Neath, Aberystwyth, Haverfordwest and Builth Wells, however, all written requests will be considered.
