Primary Education
“Don’t Touch, Tell” - Tanni teaches KS1 children
This is the first stage of a new educational project funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. The project aims to promote awareness of fire safety issues for children of all ages as part of the national curriculum.
‘Tanni’, is aimed at younger children between the ages of 5 and 7. Following the adventures of a cartoon character based on a fire-fighter’s helmet, Tanni explores with children the dangers of fire, the risks they may encounter in the home, or elsewhere, and how they can keep themselves safe – using the key message ‘Don’t Touch, Tell ’ to reinforce learning. Tanni enables all three Welsh Fire Service to work with a consistent resource that is available to ALL Welsh schools in English or Welsh. A Fire Safety Activity Book that children can take home to complete with their parents will supplement classroom work.

Key Stage 2 is the second stage of the educational project funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and designed around the requirements of the PSE Framework for Wales. It is aimed at year 5 pupils for every Welsh primary school in Wales and delivers a personal safety message which includes family escape plans, the importance of smoke alarms and how to stay safe from fire. A Fire Safety Activity Book is provided for children as additional supplementary classroom work. Key safety messages are further reinforced when children visit crucial crew, safety events or science fares during year 6.
