Hydrants
Maintenance

We are responsible for maintaining over 28,500 water hydrants throughout the Mid and West Wales area. These hydrants are an invaluable aid to our personnel when firefighting or clearing debris or pollutants from roadways following road traffic collisions.

Hydrants are often located on carriageways or close by in grass verges and pavements. There is generally a small yellow H-sign in the vicinity of hydrants in order to locate and accurately identify them.

Given their importance to our work, we are keen to be advised of any defects caused to hydrants by members of the public or road maintenance contractors. Defects include broken or loose covers, which could result in the hydrant being covered or damaged by falling objects, or a leaking hydrant that could result in a small-scale road flood.
