REPORT TO THE FIRE AUTHORITY

DATE: 30th October 2006

Providing Indemnities to Members and Officers

Summary

The ability of members and officers to take decisions and deliver services on behalf of the authority without the risk of personal liabilities where they have acted properly, is fundamental to the effective operation of the authority. Following the publication of Assembly Regulations and specific guidance, the attached report explains what indemnities can be given, what restrictions can apply, and goes on at Appendix 1 to suggest a form of indemnity which could be adopted by the Authority.

Both the Standards Committee and Modernisation Group have been consulted on the report and recommend that the Authority approve the indemnity as detailed in Appendix 1 of this report
