A Welcome Message From the New Chair of the Authority

I am delighted and consider it a great honour to have been appointed as the new Chair of Mid and West Wales Fire Authority at its Annual General Meeting on 1 June. I look forward to working with my newly elected Vice-Chair Cllr Roy Llewellyn who has been very effective in championing health, safety and wellbeing within the organisation.

Although we may be facing challenging times, my Fire Authority colleagues and I are immensely proud to be associated with and be part of the Mid and West Wales Fire Service collective vision to be a World Class Organisation; committed to protecting our communities, property and the environment from fire and other emergencies as well as providing humanitarian services..

MAWWFRS is the third largest geographical Fire Service in the UK and we recognise that we serve diverse and varied communities and individuals with different needs. All persons must be treated fairly, impartially and consistently in their dealings with the Service. Additionally, our workforce is our biggest asset and it is important to recognise the wide and varied contribution that is made by our personnel whether they be Wholetime firefighters, retained duty system firefighters or support staff.

The Fire Authority comprises of 25 elected members that represent the six Local Authorities within the Mid & West Wales Service area. The role of these members is to represent the views and interests of their constituent unitary authority and the communities they serve.

Regards,
Cheryl Philpott

Councillor Philpott joined the Fire Authority in 2004, and served as Vice-Chair from 2009 to 2011. She has taken an enthusiastic and proactive interest in councillor development to ensure that Authority members have the knowledge and expertise to consider the wide range of subjects that are presented to them for consideration.
