Beecham Review Team : Review of local service delivery in Wales - opportunity to contribute

Summary

Attached is correspondence received from the Beecham Review Team Secretariat.

Members will be aware that Sir Jeremy Beecham, Vice-Chair for the Local Government Association has been invited by the Welsh Assembly Government to examine arrangements for local service delivery in Wales. This initiative forms part of "Delivering the Connections" Action Plan. All local public services have been invited to respond to the terms of reference of the review and to specific questions.

It is proposed that a comprehensive response to the review is prepared with reference to the work undertaken by the Authority and Service, for example, within the Wales Fire Services Forum, Joint Emergency Services Group, Community Safety and Local Partnerships, WLGA and the Chief Fire Officers' Association. Whilst comments have been requested by the 13th January 2006, the Secretariat is prepared to accept responses later in the following week which would enable the Resources Committee to consider the Authority's response at its meeting on the 16th January.

Implications

The Beecham review is a major review of local public service delivery in Wales and will set out to identify improvements in the delivery of those services. It therefore has wide ranging implications for the Authority as one of the three Fire and Rescue Authorities in Wales and as a member of the broader local government family.
