REPORT TO RESOURCES COMMITTEE

DATE: 18th April 2005

National Framework for the Fire and Rescue Service in Wales

SUMMARY:

Members will be aware that the National Assembly for Wales approved the National Framework for the Fire and Rescue Service on the 16th March. A copy of the debate has been forwarded to Members along with an electronic copy of the framework. The published version will be circulated as soon as it becomes available.

Further to correspondence received from the Minister following the approval of the National Framework and the Chair’s subsequent response, it is intended to consider the content of the Framework and the direction it signals for the future of the Fire and Rescue Service in Wales. Members will also wish to ensure that the policies agreed and set by the Authority, and in particular the Integrated Risk Management Plan, remain consistent with the direction set out in the Framework.

Members will be aware that the Minister had previously given an undertaking to meet with Members of the Authority, but, unfortunately, due to diary commitments will now be unable to do so. Mrs Hart, however, is prepared to meet with a small delegation from the Authority or is prepared alternatively to arrange a meeting with her senior official.
