About Us
The Road Safety Department was set up in 2006 with the following remit:-
- To develop policies and procedures to enable the Service’s effective contribution to the Road Safety agenda.
- To assist and advise in the development of local schemes and initiatives to reduce the number of serious injuries or deaths resulting from road traffic collisions.
- To work in partnership with Road Safety Officers, Police Officers and other stakeholders to assist with our aim of “Building Safety Communities”.
Part of our aim to create a safer Community is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our roads. We are involved in a number of campaigns with other local organisations that aim to educate people about road safety in an attempt to reduce these figures.
Statistically, young drivers are the most at risk on our roads. They are more likely to kill or injure themselves, their passengers and other road users in crashes. They often have a tendency to drive too quickly and overestimate their driving ability, and can be vulnerable to peer pressure and risk taking.
We actively work in partnership with other road safety organizations, schools, colleges and local business to make young people aware of the dangers they may face as road users and how to avoid them. These schemes include Pass Plus Cymru, Megadrive, CSI Cymru and Bikesafe amongst others.
We believe that raising community awareness of road safety issues can literally mean the difference between life and death. Together, we can make Mid and West Wales a safer place to live, work and travel in.
