About Us
The Road Safety Department was set up in 2006 with the following remit:-

  • To develop policies and procedures to enable the Service’s effective contribution to the Road Safety agenda.
  • To assist and advise in the development of local schemes and initiatives to reduce the number of serious injuries or deaths resulting from road traffic collisions.
  • To work in partnership with Road Safety Officers, Police Officers and other stakeholders to assist with our aim of “Building Safety Communities”.

Part of our aim to create a safer Community is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our roads. We are involved in a number of campaigns with other local organisations that aim to educate people about road safety in an attempt to reduce these figures.

Drink and Driving Kills
This website has been designed to educate drivers on the important subject of Drinking & Driving. As you work through this short programme we will look at EU statistics and EU Drink Drive limits.

Most importantly we will examine the effects of Drinking and Driving on you physically and explain the consequences this action may have: how to calculate units of alcohol and the time it will take for your body to process them. We will use interactive sessions to highlight the risks and dangers surrounding this activity.

Scoping Study
RTC’s are often complex because they do not have a single cause. They occur due to a number of factors that culminate in the driver, motorbike rider, cyclist or pedestrian failing to manage themselves in a particular set of circumstances.

In 2003, the Welsh Assembly Government published the ‘Road Safety Strategy for Wales’ outlining a number of key objectives to reduce the risk to road users in Wales by promoting safe and sustainable access for all members of society

The Fire and Rescue Service and Police are well placed to contribute to the work of local agencies. In order to enhance this contribution, the Scoping Study has identified several successful examples that should form the foundation for future road safety work. Their input will have even greater impact when these efforts are effectively co-ordinated in a strategic partnership structure incorporating all relevant members and stakeholders.
