Diffoddwyr Tân Ifanc Aberhonddu yn cynnal digwyddiad dringo ysgolion i Elusen y Diffoddwyr Tân ac apêl Red Nose Day.

Ceir sylwadau gan y diffoddwyr tân ifanc a fu'n cyfranogi yn y digwyddiad isod. Roedd yr hyfforddwyr yn falch iawn o'r ffordd yr aeth y Diffoddwyr Tân Ifanc i'r afael â'r sialens hon, a hoffent ddiolch i bawb a fu'n cyfranogi ac i bawb a gyfrannodd ar y diwrnod neu trwy noddi.

Ieuan

Ar fore Sadwrn crasboeth, fe wnaethom droi allan i ddringo ysgolion i godi arian i Comic Relief ac Elusen y Diffoddwyr Tân. Roeddem ni wedi anelu at ddringo uchder Yr Wyddfa, ond gydag ymdrech tîm enfawr fe wnaethom lwyddo i ddringo uchder cronnol Kilimanjaro, bron a bod, mewn pedair awr yn unig gydag ymdrechion goruchaf pawb a wnaeth ddringo mwy nag 800 o weithiau. Daeth yr ymdrech fwyaf oddi wrth Ieuan Jones a ddringodd 95 o weithiau a chyfanswm o 665 o fetrau i gyd. Roedd yn ddiwrnod arbennig i achos arbennig.

Luke Parkinson

Fe wnaethom benderfynu gwneud ein rhan i Red Nose Day ac Elusen y Diffoddwyr Tân, trwy gynnal digwyddiad dringo ysgolion i elusen yn Eglwys y Santes Fair ddydd Sadwrn. Wedi'r drafferth o gael caniatâd, cychwynnodd y diwrnod yn dda. Roeddem ni'n disgwyl cyrraedd Pen-y-Fan neu'r Wyddfa, ond fe wnaethom ni ragori ar hyn yn gyflym iawn. Roedd yn ddiwrnod poeth iawn, ond ni wnaeth hyn ein rhwystro. Doedd dim byd ar y ddaear a fedrai atal Ieuan. O 9.00yb. i 1.00yh., fe wnaethom ddringo dros 800 o fetrau, sy'n uwch na chopa uchaf Ewrop (Mont Blanc). Fe wnaethom godi dros £400 i'n helusennau, felly roedd yn ddiwrnod llwyddiannus iawn.

Conner, Grahame and Kezia

Cynhaliodd Diffoddwyr Tân Ifanc Aberhonddu ddigwyddiad dringo ysgolion ar y 19eg o Fawrth 2011. Fe wnaethom godi tua £400 a chael llawer o hwyl. Fe wnaethom ddringo uchder Kilimanjaro. Fe wnaethom ddringo ysgol 7 metr 800 o weithiau i gyd. Fe wnaethom godi arian i Elusen y Diffoddwyr Tân a Comic Relief. Gwnaethom ni hyn i gymell pobl ifanc i ymuno â'r Diffoddwyr Tân Ifanc ac i wneud gwaith i elusennau.

James, Adam, Jacob

Ar ddydd Sadwrn y 19eg o Fawrth 2011 fe wnaethom ni, sef Diffoddwyr Tân Ifanc Aberhonddu, gynnal digwyddiad dringo ysgolion er budd Comic Relief. Dringodd y grŵp ysgol 7 metr am tua thair awr, gan ddringo dros 800 o weithiau i gyd, sef uchder Mynydd Kilimanjaro bron a bod, gan godi oddeutu £400. Bwriad y digwyddiad oedd codi arian i Comic Relief a bod yn rhan o'r gymuned, trwy ddringo ysgol a godwyd yn erbyn Eglwys y Santes Fair yng nghanol Aberhonddu. Bydd yr elw'n cael ei rannu gydag Elusen y Diffoddwyr Tân hefyd. Trwy wneud hyn, rydym yn anelu at gymell mwy o bobl ifanc i ymuno â Diffoddwyr Tân Ifanc Aberhonddu.

Aleesha Boyde

Fe wnaethom gynnal digwyddiad dringo ysgolion i godi arian i Comic Relief ac Elusen y Diffoddwyr Tân. Fe wnaethom godi tua £400 ar eu cyfer. Fe wnaethom fwynhau oherwydd y cawsom lolipops am ddim.

Harry Ratcliffe

Rydym ni'n mwynhau'r cynllun oherwydd ein bod ni'n dysgu pethau newydd drwy'r amser. Roedd y digwyddiad dringo ysgolion yn wych, ond roedd yn waith caled.

Rydw i wedi bod yn mynychu'r cynllun ers pedair blynedd erbyn hyn, a chyn hir buasem ni'n hoffi bod yn hyfforddwr gwirfoddol.

YFF ACHIEVEMENT WEEKEND – MOLD – MARCH 2010

Whilst on the Mold trip we took part in a number of activities like Jacob’s Ladder, survival, team challenges, low ropes and archery. I really enjoyed all of these activities.

We had opportunities to meet new people and get to know them, which was good.

On the Sunday I had the opportunity to watch other YFF take part in drills, which was very good as this gave me the chance to learn how to do drills.

There were a few down sides to the trip, which was the food, as I thought it wasn’t very nice, and we had a few problems with the girls in our room.

Other than this the whole experience was great and I would love to go again.

Amy

The Mold trip was a very enjoyable experience for all the YFF that attended from our branch. We did many different activities such as low wire, Jacob’s Ladder, climbing wall, archery, lazer quest and team challenge. This was very fun but a lot of exercise. On the Sunday we did different drills in a competition which was a lot of fun, apart from hitting my head and falling.

In between all the activities we got a chance to mingle with other branches where some we got on with well and others not so well. We also had a disco, where only our branch danced. On the bus we were kept busy with Neil’s loud music where we sang all the time and visited the McDonalds on the way and way back, because we didn’t have a big quantity at the site we stayed at. All the weekend was very good and I can’t wait until we have another, so we can keep Neil awake with the noise. And would like to thank our instructors for making the weekend all the better.

Angharad

Mold was AWSUM!!! But North Wales is COLD. I had so much fun doing the activities and competitions, especially the Jacobs Ladder. I reckon my leg muscles are like steel after walking up that hill 4 times!!

The disco was ok but nothing beats Neil’s CD mix on the bus on the way back (oh yea ….. fishy wishy). Everyone was really nice, the boys were hilarious. The only thing I really didn’t like was the food so I ended up eating “rabbit food” as Jerry says.

B Jenkins

The Mold trip was fun and I enjoyed doing activities, such as team challenge, high ropes and low ropes. In the night we had a disco which was fun. The next day we had fire fighter drills which were good and a brilliant experience. The people from Pembroke Dock were amazing.

Danni

Good points about Mold
The best thing about Mold was the Laser Quest, Jacob’s Ladder, climbing and the drills (even though we came last).

Bad points about Mold
The worst bit of Mold was the people opposite us ‘jolly knocking’ us, someone taking my glasses and the food - apart from the chicken leg.

Jonathan Jones

Good points
Had fun with activities I was given in teams
Good amount of food given
Experience I won’t forget
Meet new people
Good service given when asked by others

Bad points
People didn’t go to the disco set
Other kids made noise
Need better beds
Judge was biased against us winning as well as South Wales

I had a good experience in Mold and I really enjoyed it. There was a good amount of sports and activities to do and good support from staff and instructors.

I rate the week overall 5/5

They supplied everything I needed. As well as others their instructors were very determined to push us through activities and the competition.

WINTER WONDERLAND by Danni Barker

On the 2nd December, the young fire fighters and the instructors all visited WINTER WONDERLAND in Swansea. When we got on the bus, we all had a “sing-song” until we got there.

When we finally reached Winter Wonderland, we all raced over to the ice rink. When we got on the ice we started whizzing around and had a game of tag which was funny because most of us ended up on our bums!

After we went skating, we went to McDonalds which was fun because we all got a helium balloon and started talking like the chipmunks!

It was a really good night…………………..

LEANNE MADE THE GRADE ! by Watch Manager Beverley Davies

Leanne has not only achieved becoming a retained fire fighter at Ammanford following her “growing up” period as a Young Fire Fighter, she has now successfully passed 16 weeks of the whole-time trainee FireFighter Foundation Development Course!

Leanne is now based on Red Watch at Llanelli Fire Station. She is also an Instructor at Dinefwr YFF.

INSTRUCTOR TAKES PART IN THE LADIES DRIVING CHALLENGE – 24TH MAY 2009

Instructor and co-ordinator of the scheme, Watch Manager Beverley Davies took part in the Ladies Driving Challenge to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event took place at Pembrey Racetrack near Llanelli. The challenge was to drive a wide variety of weird and wonderful vehicles, including fire engines, HGV’s and diggers in a fun and relaxed environment!

Our visit to Green Watch, Swansea Central

On the 23rd of September at 6 o’clock all the Dinefwr Young Fire Fighters and the Instructors, Beverly, Mike, Bridget, Neil and Leanne all visited Swansea Marina. The Green Watch from Swansea Fire Station gave a talk on how the sea rescue team work on a day to day basis. They were explaining how they use the boat to go and rescue people who have been stranded out at sea. We were shown how to inflate and deflate an inflatable mat. We also go to have a go on the speed boat which they use to rescue people during the days. It was extremely fun and everyone enjoyed. On the way home we were all singing to different music which was really funny. We also stopped off at McDonalds yum. After that we all returned home at Ammanford Fire Station and then we all went home.

EXERCISE “RTC ARTIC” – 12th July 2009

On the 12th July 2009, eight of our Young Fire Fighters took part in the RTC Artic exercise at Carmarthen’s Show Ground. Before entering the Grounds, the Young Fire Fighters went to Carmarthen’s Fire Station where we had our make-up done. But not ordinary make-up, by the time we had finished we looked as if we had actually been in a car crash! Then, we went to the Show Grounds where we were actually supposed to act as if we had been a car crash. The ground had been specially prepared to look like a disaster, and was very, very life like. Cars had been crushed together, doors were hanging off their hinges and everything looked tremendous. Some of us were placed inside the cars, and others were sprawled out around the cars. It was treated like a real life situation, and some of us even got carried off in stretchers by medics! It was a good day out, and we even got to call in McDonalds on the way home! It was a good experience, and I enjoyed greatly!

2009 CAMPING TRIP – PEMBREY

When I went annual camping trip in Pembrey on the 11th – 12th August I looked forward to this because it was my first Fire Service trip with the group. The activities that were used to team build I thought was brilliant because it made everyone make an effort. My favourite events was the last day when we had to collect as much water as possible through the obstacle course and the first ones to finish wins when the large tube was full. I was funny to me because everyone was getting soaked because they were falling over and spilling everywhere. The things I did when I was there was team building, time keeping skills and map skills. These to me where vital as some people where stuck when doing some of the challenges.

LLANDEILO YOUNG FIREFIGHTERS – JANUARY 2009

Over the last two Wednesday evenings the crew of Llandeilo Young Fire Fighters have been compiling their own Risk Assessment of Llandeilo Fire Station.

With the help of Watch Manager Richie Hammond, who is completing the Operational Intelligence Gathering for Swansea Commands Risk Register, the Young Fire Fighters have completed a Risk Card and an Ops 45 Part 1 and 2.

To complete the Ops 45 Part 2 they had to find out the type of construction of the building, its dimensions, gas and electric intake points, look at possible smoke logging, backdraught/flashover likelihood, where cylinders are stored, slip and trip hazards and any forms of contamination.

They also looked at numbers of people, unseen fire spread possibilities i.e. voids etc, salvage priorities and heritage risks.

The Part 1 they looked at water supplies, stored goods and fuels, site traffic and any significant hazards along with considering possible environmental damage from fire or fire fighting actions.

They then completed the Risk Card which is basically a summery of the Ops 45 Part 1 and 2 and entered it electronically onto Llandeilo’s Station Ground Risks. This information will now be available once uploaded onto the mobile data terminals for every appliance to view if they have to respond to the premise.

This is the first time any Young Fire Fighters have done this, and their work can be viewed by all simply by accessing it on the BIS. If any other Young Fire Fighter groups would like to try this for themselves please contact Richie Hammond on ext. 2274.

PENDINE OCTOBER 2008

On Tuesday 28 October the Young Fire Fighters went to Pendine for two days. We travelled down in a mini bus. Everyone was tired so it was a little bit but the journey was very enjoyable. When we arrived we went for a walk to Stormy Beach. Everyone was excited but didn’t like the fact we had to walk. When we got to the beach everyone ran down the big pebbles. After we got back to the camp we did a few drills with hose pipes.

In the night we had a fancy dress party to get to know each other. The party was every enjoyable and I made friends with a few more people. It was very enjoyable.

On the last day we had a very athletic day. We did a mud assault course. It was very muddy and dirty but when you got in the mud it was very enjoyable. Then we did the surfing I didn’t take part, but got to know the other people who didn’t take part. Then we did archery that I won with 39 points.

The two days were very enjoyable and I had great fun, also Neil and John were awesome and Bev’s costume was a winner.

SIWAN ANGHARAD

We met in the Fire Station at ten thirty and left for Pendine.

When we arrived in Pendine we went for walk down to the beach, which was exhausting. Once we arrived back in the centre, all the Young Fire Fighters who attended took part in a hose running competition. Then we were all given numbers and told to go into groups where we all took part in an assault course thing.

That night we all/mostly all, dressed up for the fancy dress disco and competition. But while we were getting ready the fire alarm went off and we were told to line up outside the cabins. As if it wasn’t bad enough, it started snowing. But we were all enjoying.

The next day, we woke up and given numbers again. Firstly, my group had to do the assault course. It was horrible and we all got disgustingly filthy. I loved it but would never do it again. Next I had the ropey thing and climbing wall. I can’t stand heights. Then we went into the sea and got soaked. We did body boarding – it was cold but amazing. Lastly we did archery and high ropes.

I really enjoyed! I would definitely go again.

Rebecca

We went for a walk to the beach when we got there. We had lunch and then walked back and done fire activities on the grass and got soaked and muddy. We had food then dressed up and had a quiz.

The next morning we got woken up early for breakfast, then went out for activities in our groups. My groups first activity was the climbing wall and zip line. After that we went in the sea and it was freezing. Then we done the high ropes and archery. When we done archery this guy ran in front of me and I nearly shot him. Then we done the muddy assault course which was the funniest thing there.

JAMES BROOK

Tuesday 26 October the Young Fire Fighters went to Pendine for two days, we travelled by mini bus and back by mini bus.

The first day we firstly walked down to Stormy Beach and played on rocks. Later in the afternoon we did hose running and a few competitions. In the evening we had a disco and did a random quiz.

The next day we did sea activities where we put on wetsuits and played ball games, the high ropes, climbing wall, mud assault course and zip line.

THOMAS WIGNALL

We went to Pendine by min bus and left the Fire Station at about half past ten. When we arrived at Pendine we didn’t have much time before we walked down to Storm Beach and ate our packed lunch. Later we participated in competitions with other Young Fire Fighter groups. I enjoyed running the fire hose reel, though I’d never done it before, so I didn’t do very well. After that we had to carry buckets of water across an inflatable assault course. That was quite fun, but I got sat on unfortunately.

In the evening there was a fancy dress party thing, which Laura won with her costume.

The next day we did lots of different activities. First we had to swim in the sea with boards, but it was freezing. We also did archery, rope climbing and zip line. I’m quite scared of heights, so the climbing and the zip line were not best for me.

Overall it was fun to do different things, quite tiring.

ANGHARAD DAVIES

On Tuesday we met at 10.30 and we went on a mini bus and it took us two hours and we got into the cabin and I got my sleeping bag out. Then we went for a walk down Stormy Beach where we ate our lunch and we played on the beach and on the rocks. Then we were back and we had a hose running competition but I did not take part because my fingers were frozen. Then we took part in ‘It’s a Knockout’ and our team came second.

Later on there was a disco and a fancy dress competition and Laura won the competition.

My favourite part was the activities, but I could not do the sea activities. But my worst part was not doing the sea activities.

We called into McDonalds on the way back but I had nothing because I was upset, but oh well.

We got back at 6.00 o’clock.

JONY

We came to the Fire Station at half 10 and we left at half 10 and got there at half past 11 and went straight down to Morver Bay Beach and threw stones and had some lunch. We went back to the Morver Bay Centre Park and put our bags in there and did some fire fighting activities like ‘It’s a Knockout’ and running out hoses. There was a really hot girl in the fancy dress.

Then we stood up for ages and me, Dan and Ross made beds on the floor. We woke up and went out and did loads of activities like the muddy assault, and it was amazing. Then we went climbing on a wall, then we went surf boarding, then we went on a massive wall with obstacles. Then we went on a massive zip line and it was really good. Then we had a rest.

Then we came home and went to McDonalds and then went home.

ZAC O’NEILL

All the Young Fire Fighters left Llandeilo Fire Station at 10.30 am on Tuesday morning. We went by mini bus. When we arrived at Pendine Activity Centre we went into our cabins to get ready then went for a very long walk down to the beach. We all went for a walk over the rocks and then came back and did hose running competition and then did this ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition and that was really fun.

During the night we had a fancy dress party and quizzes. Some of the guys from our gang won the quiz with their name “Team Gay”. After that me, Dan, Ross, Laura, Angz and Becca were dancing.

The day after we had a full cooked breakfast then we did a lot of activities like rock climbing, muddy assault course and archery which was amazing. After that we left and had a McDonalds which was the best part and Neil was awesome when we went camping.

WATCH MANAGER BEVERLEY DAVIES
YFF CO-ORDINATOR SW5

Leanne Macbeth, from Ammanford has just completed her initial retained course, and will soon be on the run at Ammanford Leanne attended the Ammanford scheme of Young Fire Fighters for 3 years and found that this inspired her decision and assisted with her training.

She quotes “I left YFF when I was 18 and went to University, but after 5 months realised that my heart was in fire fighting. I left University, applied to become a retained fire fighter and worked on improving my fitness level. I passed and was soon on my training course. I am now very excited to get my pager and get on the run”.

Watch Manager Beverley Davies added ”this is a fantastic achievement at a time when the Service is urging females to join the Service. Leanne was a keen young fire fighter and is keen to work with the Community of Ammanford”.

Charity car wash

By Steffan Wells & Zac O’Neill

On Saturday 3rd of May we carried out a charity car wash at Llandeilo fire station between 12 and 3pm.

We had a team of 5 which were: Bryony Jenkins, Zac O’neill, Ross Hammond, Zac Barker and Thomas Wignal, including the instructors who were very helpful!

In total we raised £210 which helped to pay for brand new kit for the new recruits that joined just before the passing out parade.

While we where washing the cars the instructors asked the car owners if they had smoke alarms in their property, if they did not we were offering them free fire safety checks, we took 3 referrals.

We advertised via the local radio, posters and we put flyers on vehicles in the main car park during the day.
