Code of Conduct

  1. All uniform and personal equipment issued remains property of the Young Fire Fighters Association (YFA). It must be maintained by members in good condition and returned within seven days on the instructions of the Scheme Leaders. No item of uniform may be worn other than on official YFA activities.

  2. Members are required to be clean and tidy when in uniform. Long hair must be worn clear of the ears when in uniform.

  3. No jewellery may be worn with YFA. uniform.

  4. Full uniform will be worn by all members when attending YFA. meetings and official functions. Failure to comply will result in the member being excluded from the activity.

  5. Any damage to, or loss of, uniform or equipment must be reported to an Instructor at the earliest opportunity. A written report may be required to explain the circumstances of the loss or damage. Members may be charged for missing or damaged uniform or equipment.

  6. All items of uniform must be clearly marked with the member’s number. Any previous numbers must be obliterated. Instructors will advise on correct marking.

  7. YFA members must keep their premises clean and tidy.

  8. YFA Members are required to act in a polite and disciplined manner, and do nothing to bring the Young Fire Fighter Association of Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service into disrepute. Failure to observe this rule may result in immediate suspension or dismissal of the member from the Association. Criminal conduct at any time will result in immediate dismissal.

  9. YFA members are not allowed to go into Fire Stations, nor to use appliances or equipment unsupervised.

  10. Smoking is not permitted during YFA meetings.

  11. All instructions given by supervisory instructors must be acted on immediately.

  12. A YFA member’s service may be terminated at any time it is considered to be in the best interest of Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Young Fire Fighters Association or the member.

  13. A member may be suspended from YFA activities at any time at the discretion of an Instructor when s/he considers the member’s conduct to justify suspension. Suspended or dismissed members are not permitted to attend any YFA function or premises.

  14. Any disciplinary action will be determined by the Scheme Leader.

  15. Any member who feels that they have been badly treated by an Instructor may speak in confidence with the Services Youth Development Officer. The member’s confidence will be respected and action taken where appropriate to remedy the situation.

  16. Any member who is experiencing difficulties either within the Association or in their domestic life may seek advice from their Instructors or the Services Youth Development Officer. Where the problem is of a personal nature, an independent trained counsellor can be obtained by the Instructors or the Services Youth Development Officer. All matters will be treated in confidence.


COMPLAINTS AGAINST THE FIRE SERVICE

  1. Members and Instructors of the Young Fire Fighters Association represent Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service in the eyes of the public. Thus a complaint against the Young Fire Fighters Association is a complaint against Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and will be investigated and dealt with in that basis.

  2. Complaints should, wherever possible, be made in writing and signed by the person bringing the complaint. When this is not possible, full details should be taken of the person’s name, address, the nature of the complaint and details of any witness.

  3. This information must be passed to the Services Youth Development Officer at the earliest opportunity.


ALLEGATIONS OF CRIMINAL CONDUCT

  1. Where an allegation of criminal conduct is brought against a member of the YFA, the member will be immediately suspended from all YFA. activities.

The objects of the Fire Services Youth Training Association are to improve the efficiency of the administration of the varied fire service related youth training schemes operated throughout the United Kingdom in direct pursuit of their objects by education, advice, information and other assistance appropriate to their operation.
