Fire crews and Police rescue man from floodwater in Llandrinio

At 09:13am, on Tuesday, 22/02/2022, crews from Welshpool were mobilised to an incident near Llandrinio Bridge, Llanymynech, where a number of properties had been flooded.

A Swift Water Rescue Team rescued four people from their properties.

During the incident, at 03:32pm, Joint Fire Control was alerted by the Police of a search for a missing male in the Llandrinio area. The man, who was located within a tractor, was tracked by the National Police Air Service.

The tractor was heavily submerged in floodwater and the Swift Water Rescue Team from Welshpool were redeployed to the incident and rescued the man using a swift water rescue boat.

The Fire Service left the incident at 07:14pm and returned to inspect the flooding at Llandrinio Bridge, where further rescues were carried out from properties.

Station Manager Andrew Richards said “Our crews have worked tirelessly over the weekend and into the early part of this week in responding to the regional flooding brought about by Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin.

Our crews were already at another flooding incident and had rescued four people from their properties in the Llandrinio area when they called to assist the Police to rescue a man in a tractor.

Thanks to the support of the Police helicopter that located the tractor within the floodwater, our Swift Water Rescue Team we were then able to deploy and access the vehicle and rescue the gentleman using a boat.”
