Neath Railway Bridge Training Exercise

On Friday, June 9th, crews from Swansea Central, Neath and Pontardawe Fire Stations and the Level 3 Rope Rescue Team attended a training exercise on the Neath Railway Bridge, hosted and participated by Network Rail and Centregreat.

The exercise allowed Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) to test their response at technical rescue incidents, using working at height and water rescue assets on the railway bridge over the river Neath.  The bridge is currently undergoing extensive repairs where contractors are exposed to challenging working conditions.  The training allowed MAWWFRS crews to collaborate with Network Rail and Centregreat to test their response plans.

It proved to be a very beneficial opportunity to work in a challenging environment and the MAWWFRS crews thank Network Rail and Centregreat for the invitation.  This exercise demonstrated a positive and open approach on their behalf to understand the risks associated with sites such as this one so they can be mitigated and how they can implement procedures to make the best response in an emergency.
