Rugby match to celebrate International Women’s Day

Last week on International Women’s Day, Shona Powell-Hughes-Wakley, Nicola Davies, Karen Mayze and Nina Bishop, all members of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service headed to Nottingham to take part in the ladies first GB Women’s Fire Service Rugby match against the British Police.

GB Women’s Fire Service Rugby team were leading the game right up until the last minute, but the British Police scored the winning try in the last minutes, making the final score 8–7. It was a fantastic effort by everyone involved and a great atmosphere.

Shona, who was Vice Captain of the GB Women’s Fire Service was voted player of the match by the British Police opposition team. Congratulations to Shona and well done to all the other women that played a part in such a successful day!

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Rugby Section is open to all employees of Mid & West Wales including volunteers, whole time, On-Call, support staff and retired members. All are welcome to join or help in any way, whether that be in playing, coaching, physio or to come along for the social side of the game.
