Service Headquarters and Carmarthen Fire Station Open Day
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service welcomed hundreds of people to its Headquarters and Carmarthen Fire Station Open Day on Friday, September 1st.
The Open Day provided visitors with a behind-the-scenes experience at Carmarthen Fire Station, through a variety of demonstrations, such as search and rescue dogs and chip pan fires, and activities such as face painting and turntable ladder rides – which made for a fantastic day for all. The underlying emphasis of the day revolved around community safety and raising funds for two worthy causes – The Fire Fighters Charity and 2wish.
The day was supported by the efforts of the Rapid Relief Team – which provides support to emergency services at large-scale incidents and provided meals throughout the event, as well as the team in the Service’s HQ staff cafeteria, Blasus, where light refreshments were available.
A fantastic total of over £3,300 was raised through the Open Day activities, which will be shared between both charities. Not only did the event raise much-needed funds for very worthy causes, it also provided an opportunity to welcome so many people to the Service’s Headquarters and to reconnect with the community we serve.
The Open Day also provided the opportunity to launch a new partnership between the Service, Save a Life Cymru and Welsh Ambulance Service Trust to increase the number of lifesaving public access defibrillators.
