Safety Message: Pen Dinas Monument, Aberystwyth

At 1.24pm on Thursday, December 28th, the Aberystwyth crew attended the Pen Dinas Monument, Aberystwyth.  

Crew members responded following reports of precarious large rocks at the top of the monument which posed a public safety hazard.  Crew members carried out assessments of the monument but were unable to cordon the area off due to poor weather conditions.  Crews left the scene at 2.31pm.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is urging members of the public to stay away from the monument until it is properly assessed, and any necessary remedial works have been completed.

Anyone near the Pen Dinas Monument should follow all safety signage and precautions that have been put in place by the local authority.

A Ceredigion Council spokesperson has said:

"We are working closely with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service following reports of large stones having fallen near the monument at Pen Dinas, Aberystwyth. Harris fencing was erected on December 29th, restricting access to public footpaths.

"Cadw, the Dyfed Archaeological Trust and the Royal Ancient and Historic Monuments of Wales have also been notified.”
