Volunteering

Volunteers have been a part of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service for several years, successfully supporting the delivery of our Service Youth work provision in the form of our Fire Cadet Schemes.

The Service Volunteer Scheme is intended to significantly increase volunteer uptake through the development of mutually beneficial roles. In turn, each volunteer will receive a person-centred experience from the moment they engage with us to the moment they leave.

Volunteers are welcomed from all backgrounds and can undertake a variety of roles to address the needs of the Service and the community. We will continually review our in-house volunteering role portfolio to ensure it is varied, inclusive and accessible to our diverse population.

What you can expect from us:
We will provide you a clear role description;
You will receive a service induction and relevant training;
Your views and feedback will be heard to shape our volunteer scheme;
We will treat you with respect, consideration and appreciation;
You will have opportunities to grow and develop within your role;
Friendly atmosphere with staff that are trained to support volunteers;
Your commitment will be recognised and celebrated.

What we ask of you:
Live our Values and act as an Ambassador for the service;
Treat everyone fairly and with respect;
Follow our services guideline, policies and procedures;
Engage and take part in training needed for role;
Provide us with feedback and help us continuously improve what we do;
Respect confidentiality of the service, our staff and service users.

We currently review the capacity of our Volunteers, volunteering with the service to ensure we can provide a role to meet demand. If we are up to capacity, you may be placed on the waiting list.

If you are in receipt of benefits, you will need to notify DWP of your volunteering activities.

All candidates will be asked to complete an application form to Volunteer with the service, this will then be processed by our Volunteer co-ordinator. A telephone/face to face consultation to find out more about you and your interests for Volunteering will be completed by the Community volunteer co-ordinator.

A DBS check will be required for all our volunteering roles. References will also be requested as part of the induction procedure. Every volunteer will need to complete a service induction before volunteering commences.
