Our Business Fire Safety Department and specialist officers are committed to helping you understand the risks of fire and comply with relevant legislation.
The Department enforces the provisions of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (opens in a new window), a piece of legislation which applies to virtually any place other than domestic premises. The Fire Safety Order places the duty for ensuring a safe property with the Responsible Person for the premises. The Department has a programme for auditing all non-domestic premises within the Service area, based on the level of fire risk that each property presents. The Department is also responsible for undertaking fire scene investigations to determine the origin, cause and development of certain categories of fires in accordance with section 45 of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004 (opens a new window).
Within this area of the site you will find a range of information and links to guidance which has been published in order to assist Responsible persons in complying with the legislation.
