On Thursday, 27th November 2025, members of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s (MAWWFRS) Community Safety Education team and Cerebra’s Innovation Centre won a Highly Commended Award at the Safer Communities Awards 2025!

The 2025 Safer Communities Awards ceremony, held at Aberystwyth University and hosted by BBC broadcaster John-Paul Davies, celebrated outstanding contributions to community safety across Wales. Recognising individual efforts, collaborative projects and partnerships, the awards highlight the vital work of professionals whose impact is judged and honoured by a panel.

MAWWFRS Community Safety Education Team partnered with Cerebra’s Innovation Centre to create fire safety sensory boards for use when the Education Team visit SEN schools. The team contributed ideas, tested prototypes, and provided valuable feedback throughout the project.

The education boards make fire safety accessible to all children, featuring firefighter uniform fabric, zippers and velcro for sensory play, plus torches, flashing lights, toy engines and a steering wheel with sirens.

The project won a Highly Commended Award in the Public Safety category - congratulations to everyone that was involved, well done!
