On Friday, August 9th, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Port Talbot, Llanelli, Swansea West and Morriston Fire Stations took part in a High-Rise Building Training Exercise at Swansea University’s Swansea Bay Campus.

As part of the exercise, Firefighters took part in rigorous training to practice relatively new high-rise rescue procedures which involved a simulated fire on the fifth floor of a building, with persons reported inside.

Crews were tasked with navigating a complex layout, which included stairwells and corridors, under simulated fire and smoke conditions.  Firefighters practiced critical skills such as search and rescue, ventilation techniques and high-rise hose deployment, all while wearing full protective wear.

The exercise emphasised teamwork, communication and quick decision-making in a challenging environment, ensuring that crews are well-prepared to respond to real-life emergencies in multi-storey buildings.  This exercise forms part of a programme of training events planned over the next few weeks, which will enhance crew members’ preparedness when responding to incidents in urban settings.

From rural landscapes to urban centres, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service provides emergency response cover to almost two-thirds of Wales, which includes Swansea, the second most populated city in Wales.
