On Tuesday 7th May, Councillor Thomas Tudor – former Chair of Pembrokeshire County Council visited Haverfordwest Station, along with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) Deputy Chair of the Fire Authority - Councillor John Davies, for a tour of the station and their new fire appliance.

Crew members gave a presentation highlighting all the resources that Haverfordwest Station has to offer the community, Councillor Tudor was eager to learn all about the important work they do and gain a better understanding of the challenges they face daily.

Following the presentation both councillors were given a tour of the facilities, which included discussions about the Swift Water Rescue boat, the Turn Table Ladder, and the new fire appliance ‘31P2’ that arrived at the station in April, bringing with it additional/new equipment for firefighters to use at a variety of incidents.

In addition to the tour of the station Cllr Tudor was given the opportunity to experience the dizzying heights of the Turn Table ladder! He was provided with full safety PPE, strapped into a harness, and taken up some 20 meters into the air to take in the spectacular ariel view of Haverfordwest!

Station Manager Nicholas Rees said:

“It was great to welcome the Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Cllr Thomas Tudor, and Deputy Chair of the Fire Authority Cllr John Davies to Haverfordwest Fire Station. The duty crew demonstrated the various specialist appliances and capabilities on station such as the new fire appliance, turn-table ladder, and water rescue unit. The crew also gave an overview of the type of incidents we attend, and the prevention and protection activities undertaken in the local community to promote safety.”

Former Chair of Pembrokeshire County Council Thomas Tudor said:

"I had the pleasure of stepping on to the Turn Table ladder with safety harness and I do believe that it took me up to the maximum height of 32 meters. This was definitely a high point in my year."
