Pupils from Ysgol Henry Richard and Ysgol Bro Teifi recently took part in a Phoenix Project course at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s (MAWWFRS) Lampeter Fire Station.

The Phoenix Project is a Welsh Government sponsored intervention programme, aimed at young people aged between 11 and 25 with fire-related issues such as hoax calls and arson.  Young people who have either offended, are likely to offend, or are vulnerable can also benefit from attending a Phoenix Project course.

It challenges existing attitudes and promotes independent thinking in young people by using Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) activities to develop personal attributes such as working as a team, exploring physical and mental limits, and promoting and educating young people about the role of the FRS.

During October 13th to 17th, pupils from both schools attended a variety of sessions at Lampeter Fire Station, taking part in sessions on setting up ladders, casualty care and running hoses.  To end the week, a demonstration was held to show the skills that had been developed during the week, and a certificate was presented to each pupil.
