Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service

On-Call Firefighters are a vital part of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) - 75% of our Fire Stations are crewed entirely by On-Call Firefighters.

Earlier this year, MAWWFRS introduced a new availability and pay banding system, which recognises the needs to balance work and private lives and offers more flexible options for those interested in becoming On-Call Firefighters.

The new-look On-Call Crewing System offers:

  • Flexible commitment:You can serve your community while maintaining another job, lifestyle or work-life balance.
  • Paid compensation:Earn money for training, drills and call-outs, plus an annual retainer fee
  • Personal development:Gain valuable skills in emergency response and access professional training and certifications
  • Career progression:This could be your first step in a Wholetime Firefighting career, or a career within another emergency service

Make a real difference and become an On-Call Firefighter.
