In October, representatives from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) who form part of the UK’s International Search and Rescue (UK-ISAR) took part in a Heat and Humidity Training Exercise in Singapore.
Station Manager Rebecca Davies and Watch Manager Stephen Fuge attended the course at the Singapore Civil Defence Force facility from October 9th to 12th. The training programme covered all core aspects of ISAR operations, including command and control, shoring and breaching, working at height, line access, and casualty extrication and care.
Training scenarios were staged across two separate sites, designed to not only expose crews to the challenges of operating in extreme heat and humidity, but also to replicate the complex, real-world situations that UK-ISAR teams frequently encounter during international deployments.
The UK-ISAR Team is on-call 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year to respond to humanitarian incidents, accidents or disasters anywhere in the world, to provide a search and rescue capability and support humanitarian efforts. The team has been operating for over 20 years and has components from 13 UK Fire and Rescue Services, who have successfully carried out search, rescue and relief missions around the world.
UK-ISAR are the official UK Government response to international disasters, funded and supported by FCDO (Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office).
