Seven dedicated Fire Cadets from Amman Valley, Abercrave, and Seven Sisters Fire Station proudly represented Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) at the 2025 Fire Cadet Games, held over the weekend.

The event was hosted by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) and took place at Cardiff Metropolitan University. The three-day event brought together 31 cadet teams from across the UK for a celebration of skill, teamwork, and community spirit. The young cadets, aged between 13 - 18, competed in a series of high-energy challenges designed to test their firefighting knowledge, physical ability, and communication under pressure.

The games kicked off with an inspiring opening ceremony, during which one of our cadets Dillon from Abercrave had the honour of carrying the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) flag, joining other representatives in a proud display.

During the opening ceremony six cadets were announced to participate in the upcoming Fire Angels Leaders Expedition, taking place in Sweden next year. We are especially delighted to congratulate Cadet Annarose from Amman Valley, who will be representing the Service on this international expedition. This programme offers an outstanding opportunity for these young people to develop their leadership skills, build confidence, and gain invaluable life experience. We look forward to following their journey and hearing about their adventures in Sweden.  Well done to all involved and best wishes to Annarose and her fellow cadets as they prepare for this exciting challenge!

With the games officially opened, the jam-packed day of competition began from a technical section to Home Fire Safety advice, Water Rescue techniques and presentations.

The cadets also participated in a series of workshops with Fire Angels Foundation, challenging team-building activities that showed their skills, discipline, and commitment to the Fire Service values. One of MAWWFRS Cadets, Erin demonstrated great camaraderie and team spirit by stepping into support North Wales Cadets on the main technical event. Their performance and conduct were a credit to themselves and their Cadet Units.

At the closing ceremony all the cadets waited in anticipation as the results were announced. MAWWFRS Cadets secured a bronze place in the Water Rescue event for with their determination and lifesaving skills.

They were presented their award by former Member of the Senedd for Brecon and Radnor - Kirsty Williams – now a commissioner for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS).

We would like to say a massive thank you to the instructors and support staff who helped make it possible to take this group of cadets to the games.

Well done to all who took part in the games!
