In September, Lisa, a Children’s Epilepsy Nurse Specialist with Swansea Bay University Health Board, travelled to New York to take part in a memorial run honouring the firefighters who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks.
As part of this incredible journey, Lisa invited Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to support her by creating a memorial booklet for Ladder 15, one of the many fire stations involved in the tragic events of 9/11, which lost several of its dedicated firefighters that day. Service staff filled the booklet with heartfelt messages dedicated to those who were lost.
During her visit, Lisa presented the firefighters at Ladder 15 with the memorial booklet, along with a Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service plaque and a service shirt kindly donated by Pontardawe Fire Station. These items now hold pride of place in the station’s memorial room, where colleagues often gather after calls to unwind and reflect.
We are honoured to have been part of Lisa’s journey and are immensely proud of her achievement.
Lisa is pictured below with Cait Leavey, daughter of Lieutenant Joseph Leavey, one of the firefighters who lost his life 24 years ago during the 9/11 attacks.
