Late December, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) crew members took part in a nighttime breathing apparatus (BA) training exercise named ‘Cell Block’ held at Swansea Prison.

The exercise allowed the crews from Swansea West Fire Station to practice their responses when dealing with fires in complex buildings with restricted access. Swansea Prison was the prime location to provide a realistic environment for the crews. It allowed them to test their Breathing Apparatus (BA) sets, Incident Command procedures, analytical risk assessments, entering challenging restricted access and more.

Watch Manager Brian Bowen said:

“The training exercise at Swansea Prison proved highly successful, giving our crews valuable hands on experience carrying out rescues in restricted access areas within a challenging building layout. Everyone involved worked tirelessly to test our procedures in a realistic environment, creating an excellent foundation for learning and improvement.”

Thank you to Swansea Prison for providing the perfect setting for the training, and to all crews that took part.
