The crew at Swansea West Fire Station has recently welcomed some new recruits – a collection of handmade teddy bears!
Firefighters at Swansea West Fire Station have recently received a collection of teddy bears that have kindly been made and donated by the local ‘Craft and Natter with Friends’ group. The group has around 30 members and meets monthly for relaxed and informal sessions at the nearby Woodman Pub in Blackpill. The group’s members work to create items for several good causes, including Project Linus UK, Special Care Baby Units, dementia charities and, most recently, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS). Jan Kerslake, a member of the group, recently visited Swansea West Fire Station to meet the crew and to donate the collection of bears that have been created.
'Trauma Teddies'
The teddies that have been created by the Craft and Natter with Friends group, known as ‘Trauma Teddies’, will be kept on fire engines and given to children and young people involved in incidents that MAWWFRS attends. These incidents can often be overwhelming and frightening, and are unfamiliar experiences. The teddies distributed by MAWWFRS crews will hopefully bring some comfort to children and young people involved and alleviate any distress when possible.
Crews from across MAWWFRS’s service area often receive donations of Trauma Teddies, which is one example of the continued support MAWWFRS receives from the communities it serves.
MAWWFRS is very grateful to the generous donation of teddies and support by the Craft and Natter with Friends group.
