A squad of Trainee On‑Call Firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) has successfully completed the Service’s newly introduced Initial Emergency Care (IEC) Intermediate Course.
This group is the first within MAWWFRS to undertake the enhanced training programme, which has been developed to strengthen the medical response capabilities of operational personnel across the Service.
The IEC Intermediate Course provides Firefighters with essential lifesaving skills, including:
- Resuscitation techniques
- Safe and effective use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
- Airway management
- Catastrophic bleed control
- A range of other core emergency care interventions
These competencies are designed to support Firefighters when responding to incidents involving medical emergencies, ensuring they can deliver immediate, effective care before the arrival of ambulance crews or other medical professionals.
To mark the completion of the programme, Chief Fire Officer Craig Flannery (fourth from the left in the picture above) joined the recruits at their final training session, recognising their commitment and congratulating them on achieving this important milestone.
MAWWFRS continues to invest in the development of its On‑Call Firefighters, recognising the vital role they play in safeguarding communities across Mid and West Wales.
