On Tuesday, October 8th, the team at Llandrindod Wells Fire Station welcomed members of the local community at a Station Open Evening.
The Open Evening was an opportunity for members of the community to get a behind-the-scenes look of their local Fire Station and was very well supported with over 300 attendees. This was first Open Evening to be held at Llandrindod Wells Fire Station, which was completed in 2012 as part of the Llandrindod Wells Combined Services Centre for Dyfed-Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) and Magistrates’ Court.
The event provided the opportunity for crew members to share safety information with the community, including farm fire safety, as well as display their skills and capabilities through a variety of demonstrations, which included road traffic collisions, a chip pan fire and firefighting water equipment. Other organisations and emergency services also supported the event, with the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust and Dyfed-Powys Police in attendance, who also held a dog handler demonstration.
The Open Evening was also supported by The Bracken Centre, a cancer support centre and Powys County Council’s Children Services and Fostering Team who provided activities for families and children.
Speaking on the Fire Station’s Open Evening, Station Manager Martyn Field said:
“This was a fantastic evening that was well attended and supported by the local community to showcase the work carried out by the local crew and promote community safety initiatives, recruitment as well as collaborating with our partner agencies. I’d like to congratulate the crew for putting on such an enjoyable event!”
