Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) has today published its Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) 2040 Engagement Survey Report, marking a significant milestone in shaping the future of fire and rescue services across the region.
The report, based on extensive public and stakeholder engagement, captures the voices of over 728 respondents and reflects the priorities, concerns and aspirations of communities across Mid and West Wales. It forms a cornerstone of the Service’s long-term vision to deliver the best possible service for the communities it serves.
The key findings of the report include:
- Emergency response times, community safety initiatives and support for vulnerable individuals should be treated as a top priority by the Service.
- Respondents expressed strong support for local fire stations, especially in rural areas, citing their critical role in rapid response and community trust.
- The Service’s evolving role in medical emergencies, climate-related incidents, and community education was widely acknowledged and applauded.
- Concerns were raised about funding pressures, recruitment and retention and the need for cultural reform within the Service.
Chief Fire Officer Roger Thomas said:
“This report is a testament to the power of listening. We are grateful to every individual, organisation and elected member who took the time to share their views. The feedback will directly inform how we adapt, invest and innovate to meet the changing needs of our communities.”
The engagement process included 34 drop-in sessions, digital advertising campaigns, webinars, and outreach to over 2,350 stakeholders, ensuring a diverse and representative response.
Next Steps
The findings of the CRMP 2040 Engagement Survey Report will now be carefully considered by the Service’s Executive Leadership Team. Each theme and recommendation will be reviewed in detail to inform future planning, operational priorities and resource allocation. This includes assessing the viability of proposed service changes, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring that community feedback is meaningfully integrated into decision-making.
The Service will also continue to engage with stakeholders and the public to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the implementation phase. The CRMP 2040 will guide MAWWFRS in addressing emerging risks, enhancing service delivery, and strengthening partnerships. The Service is committed to adaptability, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
