Several Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) crews recently took part in Training Exercise ‘Anweddu’ at the South Hook Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal in Milford Haven.
The training exercise simulated a liquified gas release, resulting in a number of casualties in need of rescue. The rescues included a variety of scenarios, including rescuing casualties from height, a subsurface rescue and from water using an arial appliance. There was also a casualty rescue from a confined space which required the assistance of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team Wales.
The multi-agency training exercise involved 10 fire engines from MAWWFRS’s Western Division (Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire) and required the Welsh Ambulance Services Trust, Dyfed-Powys Police and the Pembrokeshire Local Resilience Forum to successfully resolve the incident. The Operational and Tactical Coordination Groups were also simulated during the exercise.
The session provided an excellent opportunity to develop and refine the partnership working, problem solving and rescuing from challenging situations skills of the crew members and emergency services taking part.
